These placing have also given her a place in the record books, with her 5th number 1 single making her the first female solo artist to achieve 5 number 1s in consecutive years in history, reports the Official Charts Company.

In 2007, Rihanna took number 1 with single Umbrella, while Take A Bow hit number 1 in 2008. Then Run This Town made it to number 1 in 2009, and last year she took the top spot with Only Girl (In The World). This year, now 2011, she has reached number 1 with What’s My Name.

The only other artist that had this many singles reach the top spot in consecutive years was Elvis Presley, and that was in the ’50s. It’s a big deal that Rihanna’s setting records only a week into the new year!

The single knocked X Factor winner Matt Cardle’s cover of Biffy Clyro’s When We Collide to 2nd on the chart after it enjoyed being number 1 for 3 weeks. However, the Black Eyed Peas were able to hang on to the 3rd spot with The Time (Dirty Bit). Lights On by Katie B and Miss Dynamite made it to fourth, while Do It Like A Dude by Jessie J rounded out the top five.

Not all was well with Rihanna’s hits, however. The success of these other artists sent her single Only Girl (In the World) from 6th to 9th. Although, Who’s That Chick featuring David Guetta rose from 13th to round the top 10.

As for albums, Loud, Rihanna’s newest, is at the top of the chart. She stands ahead of The Defamation of Strickland Banks by Plan B at number 2 and Progress by Take That at number 3.
